Your own app. Everything in one place, and nothing you do not need.
Prepared for Riley Boertien
Where it lives now

Three places, and one of them is your memory.

"I only really use it for the workouts. I tend to track everything else on WhatsApp."

Trainerize

"I've got it written down on my notes, like x amount of calories this week."

Your notes app

"I have to log in to their thing, rather than just having all of them just there straight away."

Your Sunday

Your words, on the call on 20 August.

What this is

One app. Your name on it. Nothing on it you would not use.

You told me what you wanted five different ways, and it was the same thing every time. So that is what got built, and the discipline was in what got left out.

"Nice and simplistic. Just the basics, the things you need and nothing else extra. And if it looks good, then that's half the bother."

You, on the call
Their side

First, what your client opens.

It goes on their home screen and opens like any other app. No app store, no download, no account they have to remember. Your colours, your name, your gym.

Their side / Today

They open it and today is already there.

  • Today's session, named, with the lifts underneath.
  • Today's fuelling, so they are not guessing what they are eating against.
  • One button in. Nothing to hunt for, nothing to scroll past.
Today screen
Workout screen
Their side / Train

Your videos, your form guides, their sets.

  • You already film these. They sit at the top of the exercise, not buried three taps down.
  • They tap a set to log it, and tap again if they got it wrong. That is the whole interaction.
  • Last week's numbers are right there, so they know what they are chasing.
Their side / Running

The running side gets its own home.

This one is yours, not a copy of anybody else's app. You are the S&C coach in a gym full of PTs, and this is the part they cannot follow you into.

  • Structured sessions written properly, not typed out as a paragraph.
  • A race countdown and the week laid out against it.
  • Strength and endurance side by side, both first class.
Running screen
Progress screen
Their side / Progress

One number, and the line it is on.

  • Their weight, big enough to read at a glance, with the trend behind it.
  • A weigh in takes two taps, so they actually do it.
  • Every entry lands on your side the second they save it.
Your side

And this is you.

Same app, one tap to flip. The half you asked for on the call: everyone on one screen, and never logging in as somebody else to find out how their week went.

Your side / Clients

Everyone on one screen. Whoever needs you is at the top.

  • The week as seven bars per client: done, missed, rest. Read it in a second.
  • Anyone drifting gets flagged with the reason, not just a red dot. "No weigh in for 9 days."
  • Flagged clients sort to the top, so opening the app tells you who to message.

Your side / Clients

Tap a name and it opens where it sits.

Sessions, food, last weigh in and your own note on them, without going anywhere. This is the exact thing you said irritates you, answered.

"I have to log in to their thing, rather than just having all of them just there straight away."

You, on the call
Your side / One client

One tap in, and it is all there.
Five tabs, not fifteen.

Client overview
Client weight history
Client food week
OverviewWeightFood

Every number they have ever put in is dated and kept, so their week's food is a screen you look at, not a WhatsApp thread you scroll back through.

Plan builder
Your side / Plan

Your Sunday, on one screen.

  • Pick a client along the top, write their seven days underneath.
  • Rest days stay quiet. Only the sessions ask anything of you.
  • Publish week and it is on their phone that second.

A few hours on a Sunday was your description. This is aimed squarely at that few hours.

You said it on the call

Nothing here is a guess.

Everything in one place. There's their workouts, there's their eating for the day, there's their weight for the weekToday
Clients can see the workouts and it has videos and form guides. I've got my own videos I've recorded in the gymTrain
Almost like a separate section for running plans, so it looks a bit better than just typing it outRunning
Rather than just having all of them just there straight awayClients
There's a lot of tabs and a lot of space which just for me doesn't really serve a purposeFive tabs
I'm paying for all these things and I don't even use any of themNo add ons
I had to pay for 10 people straight away and it hit you quite hardNo per client fee
On purpose

What it does not do.

Every one of these is a decision, not a gap. Simple was the brief, and simple is only real if things get left out.

No chat inside it

You run on WhatsApp and so do your clients. A second inbox would only split your messages in two. Nothing here moves you off it.

No calorie tracking

Nutricheck already does that better than anything I would build, and your clients are already on it. Their numbers come here, the tracking stays there.

No stock exercise library at first

Version one carries your own videos. The big library is on the list, and I would rather build it properly than half do it.

No progress photos yet

You never mentioned them, so I have not assumed. Say the word on this call and they go in.

Now, and after

What ships first, and what comes next.

In version one

The app you have just seen

Both sides, live, with your real clients on it. Their workouts, running plans, weight and food, your roster, your client pages and your Sunday plan builder. Your own videos hosted. On their home screen.

After go live

The list we keep adding to

Nutricheck coming through automatically. This is the target and I am not going to promise it until I have checked what Nutricheck actually lets out. Then a stock exercise library, Hyrox sessions, progress photos, and the App Store version.

You asked on the call whether things could be added months down the line. Yes. You text me, and it gets done. That is what the monthly covers.

Their data

Your clients' information, held properly.

01

Your own server

Not a shared account inside somebody else's product. Your app, your database, in the UK.

02

Their own login

Every client sets their own password and can only ever see their own data. Never each other's.

03

Backed up nightly

Off the server, every night. If anything ever goes wrong, nothing is lost.

04

It stays yours

If you ever walked away, the data comes with you. You are not renting your own client history back off anyone.

From yes to live

Four things I need from you.

01

Your exercise videos

The ones you have already filmed. Send them however is easiest and I will get them in and organised.

02

Photos of your gym

Everything you have seen today uses placeholder photography. Your own gym goes in before a single client sees it.

03

Your clients, and what each is working towards

Names, goals, current macros, current weights. I set them all up. They do not fill in a thing.

04

Half an hour, once it is up

We go through it together, you tell me what to change, I change it. Then it goes live.

Everything else is mine. You do not touch a server, a domain or a settings page.

Your clients

They get one link, and that is it.

  • You send it on WhatsApp, where you already talk to them.
  • Share, then add to home screen. It sits with their other apps.
  • They open it and their plan is already in there, because you put it there.
  • Nothing to download, no store, no password to invent on the spot.

The client of yours who found Trainerize too confusing gets one screen with one button on it.

On their phone
Straight with you

This is not the cheap option.

Trainerize costs you twenty pounds a month. This costs more than that, and pretending otherwise would be daft. So it has to do something Trainerize cannot, and there are three of those.

You look like the coach you are

Every other trainer in that gym is a Level 3 with a Trainerize login. You are a Level 4 S&C coach with your own app. That gap is visible from across the gym floor, and it is the one thing none of them can copy this year.

People stay longer

Your words: it would "improve the standard of online coaching I can offer, which in theory would then help client retention." A client who does not drift is worth more than a client you have to replace.

The price does not move as you grow

You paid for ten seats once and ate the cost when they dropped. That does not happen again. Five clients or fifty, the number is the same, and the app is yours at the end of it.

You said getting people through the door is the job right now. Fair. This is not a lead machine and I am not going to sell it as one. It is the thing that makes the ones who do come through stay, and talk.

Your app, your business

Own it. Do not rent it.

  • Hosting, backups and your own server
  • Support, fixes and new features as you think of them
  • Unlimited clients, no per seat charge, ever
  • Your brand, your data, your app

The monthly does not start until the app is live with your existing clients on it. Until then you pay nothing but the setup.
